Sixth Grade Language Arts Reminders
Dear Families,
We have had a great year in language arts! I appreciate all the support I have received this year. There have been some challenges, but overall I feel we have had a successful and productive year. We have a few reminders for upcoming events.
We will be starting our next set of books for our book reports, and yes this is the last book report! This book is Science Fiction/Dystopia. Books in this genre include but are not limited to the following; Hunger Games, Wizard of Oz, Divergent, The Giver, The Hobbit, Candy Shop Wars, and Fablehaven. Students will be creating a map of the world that is in the book they are reading. Remember books should be close to 200 pages. Book Reports will be due on May 22nd, students will be showing the map to a small group of students.
Our next unit starts in a few weeks. The unit is called, "Winging It," we will exploring the fascination and concept of flight.
Thank you to all the parents that came in to help with our Dream Catcher activity, it was very fun.
Also, please return any books you may borrowed from me-I need to check them back in.
Thanks,
Mrs. Engel

We are starting our next unit in language arts, "Embracing Heritage." Students will be learning about immigration, cultures and heritage. We will be doing an Ellis Island simulation on Jan. 30, anyone who would like to volunteer may do so by emailing me at [email protected] and completing a background check through the district. We would love to have helpers for this activity.
Book Reports:
Biography/autobiography
Due Feb. 21
Book Reports have become somewhat of an issue in our classes, many students are not handing them in on time. Please, please, please encourage your child to read EVERY night-it is the single most important thing they can do. The books should be 200-300 pages in length and the book report form and activity should be handed in on the due date.
Donations:
We are in need of boxes for our Ellis Island Simulation, shoe boxes work the best.
Thanks,
Mrs. Engel
